Sunset Grill

$$$, Eclectic, St. Croix

User Rating: *** 3.4

Fodor's Review:

As you would expect, this alfresco restaurant is a hot spot for sunset watchers, as well as a social hub for locals. The ever-changing menu features fish, fish, and more fish. Try the almond-crusted grouper in a soy-butter sauce or whatever else the chef whipped up that day. Those who aren't fond of fish can pick from dishes like a rib-eye steak for dinner; on the lunch menu is a buffalo burger. Desserts might include fresh blueberries and strawberries in a rum sauce. It's about 2 km (1 mi) north of Frederiksted.

beautiful setting, awful service

If it were not for the fact that we had a table right on the beach at the waters edge, prime seating for sunset, I wouldn't even rate this place as high as I did. I'm not sure who was to blame for the poor service, but it was obvious that the one waitress that was assigned to the outside area was overwhelmed, whether from lack of training or just too much to do I'm not sure. However, at no time during the 3 and 1/2 hours (yes!) we spent there for dinner did anyone else from another part of the restaurant come out to help. It wouldn't have been so bad if the waitress had come by periodically to keep us informed as to why there was such a delay, but we didn't even get that courtesy. It was so bad that at the end we (as well as the foursome behind us) paid cash for our meals becuase none of us wanted to spend another 15-20 minutes while the server took our credit card!
