Fodor's Review

North Caicos islanders Susan and Clifford Gardiner built this small, palmetto-fringed hotel in the 1980s on the quietest and almost deserted beach in Whitby. The couple's friendliness and insights into island life, as well as Susan's home-baked bread and island dishes (Cliff's favorite is her cracked conch and island lobster), are the best features. Booking at Pelican Beach may be with or without breakfast included. Over the years, upkeep of the property has been somewhat inconsistent, but rooms are nevertheless very simple and comfortable. Best are Rooms 1–6, which are five steps from the windswept beach. There's also a gazebo beach bar for lazy evenings where you might choose to hang out with newly made friends.
