Grand Turk

Top Reasons to Go

History. Take a morning flight from Provo to Grand Turk and find out how such a small island can have so much history. Travel to the lighthouse, visit the old prison where the last hanging was as recent as 1960, and certainly visit the national museum; you'll be smarter by the time you hit the beach to relax in the afternoon.

Dive the Wall. The coral walls drop off to thousands of feet as little as 300 feet offshore in Grand Turk—it's even possible to swim to the wall from the beach. The less time it takes to reach the site, the more time to enjoy your dive.

Old Caribbean Charm. In Grand Turk you'll feel like you've stepped back in time. Giving meaning to "island time," locals just take it slow. On Front Street layers of sun-bleached, peeling paint only add to the charm. Walk down the street and everyone smiles and says hello; some will even stop to converse and are truly interested in where you're from. Watch where you walk; you'll share the road with wild donkeys and roosters.

Shopping and Playing at the Cruise Port. So you think you can't mix Old Caribbean charm with a 3,000-passenger cruise ship? The beauty of Grand Turk is that despite its small size, these two happily coexist, and fickle vacationers can have it both ways: the relaxation of a slower life, and just 3 mi away, the bustle of shops and pool games. But the bustle is only bustling (and available) when there is a cruise ship at the dock.

Gibbs Cay. A 20-minute boat ride from Front Street takes you along the shore to an uninhabited cay for snorkeling; in another five minutes you're in Gibbs Cay. The stingrays already sense the boat coming, and they will swim with you the whole time you are there. It's a don't-miss experience.
