Barefoot Café

$-$$, American, Providenciales

User Rating: **** 3.7

Fodor's Review:

This lively indoor-outdoor café is always bustling, drawing residents and tourists with hearty, affordable fare that includes farm-raised conch. Fresh-roasted gourmet coffee, homemade muffins and pastries, and breakfast sandwiches start the day. Huge burgers, grinders, and savory pizzas are popular lunchtime options, along with fresh fruit smoothies and ice cream. Dinner fare always includes fresh island seafood -- the barefoot seafood platter is a must for fish fanatics. Look for value-priced evening specials, such as the popular $15 Caribbean Tuesday dinner. Centrally located on the lower level of Ports of Call shopping plaza, it's also a great place to people-watch.

Great Food, Value, and Fun Atmosphere

My wife, Kids and I stayed at the Ocean Club near the Barefoot Cafe and we had regretted not finding out about The Barefoot Cafe sooner. The new owner, Jimmy, has recently taken over as the new owner and is tuning it into "Jimmy's Dive Bar & Grill" This was the only place that catered to kids and offered Us a selection from the menu at kids prices. I had by far the best/biggest steak on the island. I had the 16-18oz rib eye ($35) that was excellent. (My wife would not go for sharing the 48oz porterhouse) She ordered up the Lobster tail Dinner ($27) and was excellent as well and for lobster the best price for it in the Turks and Caicos Islands. The kids dug into the usual Chicken Fingers and Grouper Nuggets with Home Made French Fries. Before we left the next day we headed back for breakfast and found the Food and friendly service (which is almost impossible to find in the islands) great as well. The Eggs Benedict had real Hollandaise sauce and the Fruit Platter was a big portion. Wished we had found this place sooner in our trip.

Barefoot Cafe a.k.a Jimmy's Dive

Posted by gracie307 from Fairfax, VA on 1/4/07

The Barefoot Cafe was once a spot my husband and I always looked forward to visiting when we would stay in Turks and Caicos but alas, it has changed ownership and with this, unfortunately, the quality of the food has changed as well as the attitudes of the staff. Our last (and I do mean LAST) visit was January 3, 2007. The husband ordered his standby, chicken fingers, and I ordered nachos. The fries were a huge disappointment, the amount of food was half what we usually received and it was evident the oil had not been changed in the fryers since our last visit six months earlier....yikes and yuk. My nachos were missing the guacamole and sour cream, and I counted six individual black beans sitting atop grease soaked staled chips. I was informed AFTER the nachos arrived that they were out of guacamole; when I complained to my waitress I expected her to hand me a phone and tell me to call someone who really cared. The old Barefoot Cafe is no more...it's now called Jimmy's Dive, c'mon Jimmy, don't sugarcoat it since it is nowhere near a "dive" but more of a "dump". Warning: Stay far away from this place, Jimmy appears to be an evil alien. We did however have a great laugh at the steak and eggs on the menu for a bargain price of only $25...what a deal.
