Safety in Trinidad and Tobago

Travelers should exercise caution in Trinidad, especially in the highly populated east-west corridor and downtown Port of Spain, where walking on the streets at night is not recommended unless you're with a group. A surge in crime on Charlotte Street in Port of Spain suggests that it's best to avoid this street altogether. As a general rule, Tobago is safer than its larger sister island, though this should not lure you into a false sense of security. Petty theft occurs on both islands, so don't leave cash in bags that you check at the airport, and use hotel safes for valuables.
