Banks and Exchange Services

More Travel Tips »

At this writing, the exchange rate for the Trinidadian dollar (TT$) is about TT$6.34 to US$1. Most businesses on the islands will accept U.S. currency if you're in a pinch. Credit cards and ATM cards are almost universally accepted for payment by businesses, hotels, and restaurants. Cash is necessary only in the smallest neighborhood convenience shops and roadside stalls. Trinidad has ATMs in all but the most remote areas. In Tobago there are only a few in Scarborough and at the airport in Crown Point. Be aware that there are far fewer bank branches in Tobago than in Trinidad.
