Caribbean Airlines, formerly BWIA, is the Trinidad-based national carrier, but many other major airlines offer flights to Trinidad and then onto Tobago from the U.S. To get to Tobago, you will have to hop over from Trinidad on Liat or Caribbean Airlines.

Information

American Airlines (868/664-4661). Caribbean Airlines (868/625-1010 or 868/669-3000). Continental Airlines (800/461-2744). Delta Airlines (800/221-1212). LIAT (868/627-2942 or 868/623-1838). Spirit Airlines (800/772-7117).

Airports and Transfers

Authorized airport taxis can be arranged just outside the baggage-claim areas of the airports on both Trinidad and Tobago. (You will certainly be assailed by shouts of "Taxi?" by the nonauthorized drivers as you exit the baggage area.) The trip from the airport into Port of Spain costs about $50 during the day and $75 at night using the authorized taxis. In Tobago, the cost will vary greatly depending on the location of your hotel; a board in the baggage claim area claims to give accurate rates to all the major hotels. Generally, hotels in the Crown Point area should cost about $25 (a bit of a rip-off, as most hotels in that area are within walking distance) while hotels in Scarborough and Grafton Beach will cost approximately $65.

A service available in Trinidad, called 628-TAXI, will take you from the airport to any point on the island. The cost to get to hotels in Port of Spain is about $25 each way, but you will have to call from the airport or your hotel to arrange the pickup.
