Fishing in Trinidad and Tobago

Fishing

Trinidad

The islands off the northwest coast of Trinidad have excellent waters for deep-sea fishing; you may find wahoo, kingfish, and marlin, to name a few. The ocean here was a favorite angling spot of Franklin D. Roosevelt. Through Bayshore Charters (29 Sunset Dr., Bayshore, Westmoorings. 868/637-8711) you can fish for an afternoon or hire a boat for a weekend; the Melissa Ann is fully equipped for comfortable cruising, sleeps six, and has an air-conditioned cabin, refrigerator, cooking facilities, and, of course, fishing equipment. Captain Sa Gomes is one of the most experienced charter captains on the islands. Members of the Trinidad & Tobago Yacht Club (Western Main Rd., Bayshore, Westmoorings. 868/637-4260) may be willing to arrange a fishing trip for you.

Tobago

Dillon's Deep Sea Charters (Crown Point. 868/639-8763) is excellent for full- and half-day trips for kingfish, barracuda, wahoo, mahimahi, blue marlin, and others. Trips start at $165 for four hours, including equipment. With Hard Play Fishing Charters (13 The Evergreen, Old Grange, Mt. Irvine Bay. 868/639-7108), colorful skipper Gerard "Frothy" De Silva helps you bag your own marlin. The cost is $400 for four hours on the 42-foot Hard Play or the Hard Play II; fly fishing is also available for $80 per person.
