Trinidad has excellent roads throughout the island. Be careful when driving during the rainy season, as roads often flood. Never drive into downtown Port of Spain during afternoon rush hour (generally from 3 to 6:30), when traffic is at its heaviest. In Tobago, many roads, particularly in the interior or on the coast near Speyside and Charlotteville, are bumpy, pitted, winding, and/or steep (though the main highways are smooth and fast). On either island, driving is on the left, in the British style, so remember to look to your right when pulling out into traffic. Also be aware that Tobago has very few gas stations -- the main ones are in Crown Point and Scarborough.
