Justifiably celebrated, this 1940s-era hotel overlooks a spectacular secluded beach on Bacolet Bay just outside Scarborough and has been fully restored and updated to luxury status. Though long neglected, it has been brought back to life by Austrian Karl Pilstl and his wife. The lobby is a study in 1940s perfection and appears now as it must have when Rita Hayworth came through. Rooms have teak floors and glass-partitioned bathrooms (with curtains for private moments); four-poster beds and lavish beddings are standard. Rooms in a new wing have sunken sitting areas. Most activity takes place at the No Problem beach bar, where a barbecue always seems to be in progress. The hotel is surrounded by water on three sides, so every room has a spectacular ocean view. The hotel's restaurant, Shutters on the Bay, offers splendid food and an unbeatable atmosphere. Meal plans are available.
