L'Auberge Gourmande

$$-$$$, French, St. Martin

User Rating: ** 1.8

Fodor's Review:

Decorated arches frame the elegant and charming dining room in this 120-year-old French Antillean house where chef Didier Rochat delights his guests with appetizers like garlic escargots and coquilles St. Jacques with scallops and shrimp. Rack of lamb and a filet mignon are both excellent main-course choices, but be aware that although his offerings are pleasing to the palate, they wreck the waistline. The restaurant also has a good selection of wines. As is the common problem in Grand Case, parking can be a challenge.

Real disappointment

Posted by mrl9333 from NJ on 7/18/07

This past visit (7/07) proved to be a total disappointment. After coming to this restaurant for the last 20 years, even before the present owner, I believe that they have a substitue chef who needs to refine his craft before he can charge the amount he does for the over cooked sea food, and the poor Dover Sole (39 Euros)That is served up. What once was a classic is now no more that a weak link to French cooking.
