Popular since the early 1960s, this tiny (only 10 tables) waterfront restaurant overlooking pretty Vigie Cove is managed by Michelle Elliott, noted artist and daughter of the original owner, and her French husband, chef Xavier. For a light lunch opt for Greek or shrimp salad, or broiled fresh fish with creole sauce. Dinner might start with divine lobster bisque, followed by fresh seafood accompanied by one (or more) of the chef's fabulous sauces -- ginger, coconut-curry, lemon-garlic butter, or wild mushroom. Hearty eaters may prefer duck, lamb, beef, or chicken laced with peppercorns, red wine, and onion or Roquefort sauce.

Not Nearly as Good as Jacques
Posted by YYZGUY from Toronto on 1/6/08
Coal Pot is good but far from Very Good or Excellent. We have been to each of the Coal Pot & Jacques twice in the past week. No question, unanimous decisions, Jacques is much better these days.
The Fodors print review is over 2 years out of date as Coal Pot was significantly expanded 2 years ago and is now a "machine" rather than the place it once was (small, personal and very good). We had no trouble getting in with <24 hours notice.
WTS, sauces are still good but the fish was consistently overcooked (6 of 8 portions on the two visits) and they don't like you telling them that... :)

Excellent on every score!

In our many trips to St. Lucia - the coal pot has been one of our fav. places to visit and to eat. And that remains for visits to several other islands as well. The food is excellent, the service good and the location simply wonderful. Eating at the sound and feet of the shoreline is simply heavenly. Highly recommended!

We having been vacationing in St. Lucia for the past 13 years. The Coal Pot is our favortie place to dine! If we could choose only one restaurant to go to, The Coal Pot would be it. Froggie Jacks, & Razmataz are wonderful as well.

By far our best meal in St. Lucia! Coquille St. Jacques good enough to write home about, delicious surf'n'turf, marvelous raspberry cheesecake. Excellent service. Not to be missed - make a reservation - we were lucky enough to get in when someone cancelled!
