One of our favorite dining experiences in the Caribbean!!!

We dined here during our stay in 2006. The Rainforest Hideaway was far more than we had dared hope for. From the moment we crested the hill and started descending on Marigot Bay (about 20 minutes south of Castries), we knew it was going to be something special. Marigot Bay is a small harbor with emerald water and is a prime port for catamarans and other sailing boats and small yachts. We parked the car and then hopped a water ferry across the bay to the Hideaway. This place was simply beautiful and absolutely "oozed" character! The only way you could get to the restaurant was by boat (even the evening's jazz trio arrived on the water taxi!) and the restaurant was beautifully laid out around a series of piers and up into the rain forest (I had a little tree frog for a companion in the men's room!). And what was especially nice is that the service and food more than matched the ambience. My 6 year old daughter and wife loved their duck, while my 18 year old daughter practically licked her beef tenderloin clean. My risotto with jerked shrimp and scallops was really yummy and my Thai pumpkin and coconut soup was out of this world! This was definitely a dining experience I would love to repeat and would HIGHLY recommend it to anyone visiting the island. Just make sure that you make reservations as I got the distinct impression that if you didn't have reservations, you weren't dining there!

An adventure

When we arrived for dinner, we asked if we could merge 2 of the tables (there were 5 empty tables!)closer to the water, but no, they were unwilling to accommodate us, and so we were seated at the back of the "room". One might normally have just left, but this place is hard to get to (One has to take a ferry from Marigot Bay and it cost $200 to get there from our resort.)Thus my enjoyment of this Hideaway was negatively affected by my seat in the room. Rather than looking at the dark water, I faced the service area which included a harshly lit window leading into the kitchen. Our table was also unsheltered from the weather. There was a roof, but no side walls to protect from the heavy winds and blowing rain. They did however, willingly bring a table cloth to use as a shawl. But it was cold! The meal was fine. I should have had fish rather than lamb. And the banana desert was delicious! Perhaps the best anywhere. By the way, no complementary champagne at any time.

No.1 in St. Lucia

Out of all the restaurants we ate at on the island this was by far our number one. Crossing the bay on a 3min ferry ride to get there was a lovely way to arrive. We were then greeted by friendly staff and sat in the bar area for a drink whilst waiting for our table. There was a lovely atmosphere in this open-air restaurant situated by the water. The food was outstanding, wonderfully presented, so fresh and tasty. Overall, a delightful dining experience in a magical setting.
