Fodor's Review:

Chef-owner Jacky Rioux creates magical dishes in his open-air garden restaurant (known for years as Froggie Jack's) overlooking Vigie Cove. The cooking style is decidedly French, as is Rioux, but fresh produce and local spices create a fusion cuisine that's memorable at lunch or dinner. You might start with a bowl of creamy tomato-basil or pumpkin soup, a grilled portobello mushroom, or octopus and conch in curried coconut sauce. Main courses include fresh seafood, such as oven-baked kingfish with a white wine and sweet pepper sauce, or breast of chicken stuffed with smoked salmon in a citrus butter sauce. The wine list is also impressive.

The first indication of a dismal meal was the fact that only 2 tables were occupied when we entered the room. The next was that they had no water - neither still nor sparkling. All the dinners were disappointingly pedestrian - the crab appetizer a breadcrumb mush. The vegetables were perhaps the worst. An assembly of unrelated boiled-to-smitherines vegies jammed together in a little dish to keep them off the sauces. No attempts were made to "present" the meal in any artistic way. Even the wine list was spare and uninspiring. Everything was disappointing after the big build-up on this site. All in all this was the worst meal we had in St. Lucia!

Jacques> the best this season

Posted by YYZGUY from Toronto on 1/6/08

We were at Jacques twice in the past 10 days and had two wonderful expereinces. Our St Lucian friends had not been for 18 months and concurred was far better than the Coal Pot which is now far larger and mediocre at best. The coconut chocolate creme brule was wonderful as were both the meat (prepared as requested) and fish (not overcooked) entres. The crab appetizer was fabulous with little breadcrumbs and a lot of crab. Thank you for two memorable evenings Jacque & staff.
