Fodor's Review:

You're treated like a beloved relative rather than a commercial guest at this quintessential Caribbean inn, formerly a sugar plantation at the foot of Mount Liamuiga: historic yet contemporary, elegant yet unpretentious. The 18th-century greathouse (opt for top-floor rooms) and stone cottages hold commodious lodgings with hardwood floors, Laura Ashley-esque trimmings, and wicker and antique furnishings. "Supreme" cottages have plunge pools and whirlpool tubs. You can wander the exquisitely landscaped ornamental gardens, which brilliantly counterpoint the wild adjacent rain forest (filigreed with trails), where the rustic-chic spa offers exotic treatments. Thoughtful extras include beach and town shuttles, as well as TVs and DVD players for rent. Art and Ruth Keusch and their family set the warm, fun-loving, yet cultured tone. Staff are professional, knowing their business but not yours, providing posh pampering without pomp.

You won't even want to go into town

Just back from a January 08 5-day stay at Ottley's with my two sisters. Though it's premium-priced, it's very difficult to find faults with this place. The setting is simply gorgeous, the food is sublime (go for a meal plan), the staff is incredible and the pool area is lovely. It never felt crowded in any way and no request seemed too much to ask. I would recommend springing for a detached cottage with a plunge pool or deck: the privacy you gain is worth every penny. I'd also recommend the spa, just for the feeling of looking out into the rain forest through the open fourth wall and watching the Green Vervet monkeys playing as you're being massaged. People talk a lot about the Experience Economy, and Ottley's is a great example: this place was an Experience rather than an inn or hotel. Highly recommended.
