Sonesta Great Bay Beach Resort and Casino Review

St. Maarten's only all-inclusive is well positioned even if it doesn't offer the height of luxury: away from the docks that are usually crawling with cruise ships, but only a 10-minute walk from downtown Philipsburg. The day-long activity schedule and no-limit food and bar policy are attractive, but like many properties of the same caliber, very necessary renovations continue. Although rooms have been redecorated in a Caribbean style, the common areas are rather dated and bland. There is a wide choice of rooms, including some with butler service and all have terraces with fine views on the beachfront side. One and two-bedroom suites with kitchens are good for groups. Rooms on the first floor are esssentially underground—get an upper floor room facing the ocean.

    not pleased

First off some of the pics are of their condos which a re far nicer than their rooms. If you book, the only floor that is nice in the hotel proper is the seventh floor. This hotel is very worn, grungy/dirty and ragged otherwise. I don't know how Sonesta can put their name on this hotel. The room was so musty that.common conversation with other guests was what allergy/sinus/ whatever pills helped them sleep through the night. The linens were scratchier than most cut rate hotels and the beds not a friend to anyone's back ( again common conversation among guests)second floor rooms had furniture so worn it looked like the stuff in my nephews frat house(cigarette burns, water rings, stains) . The bathroom was in disrepair and not clean. The in room fridge was stocked it never got cold enough to chill the sodas, waters or beer inside. The staff must be very happy because they'd much rather be texting, conversing with eachother or simply not interested. The front desk only addressed room issues when I finally asked for the manager. The food was fine, nothing special but more than once large cockroach like " palmetto "bugs were seen on the s erving spoons and such ( all the buffet meals that were served when I was there was served on the deck, outdoors)although the information given to me prior to my stay stated that a la carte food was available it only happened for 2 meals during my 4 night 5 day stay and even with the fixed and limited a la carte menu several entrees and apps were not available. The drinks were fine if you could pull the bartender away from his phone screen.something that may not bother others is that the generous full fifths of decentliquor that was in the room complimentary, was opened before we entered and honestly I was a bit paranoid to drink not knowing if something may have been put into the bottle. The onsite "casino "is a small room of video machines. The shuttle mentioned in some postings by the hotel and sometimes in other reviews is not a hotel service but one from the merchants near the Maho property and runs at their discretion, so don't count on using the amenities o f the sister property witjout a $50 r/t cab cost. If they simply posted accurate pics, were clean and gave some service that one would expect from most any place I don't think i'd have a problem. The troubles and irration was distracting,.
