This romantic eatery earns raves for its fine service and high-quality cuisine. Didier Gonnon and Martyne Tardif are out front, while chef Mario Tardif is in the kitchen creating dishes such as sautéed sea scallops with white truffle oil; honey-garlic glazed, roasted crispy duck; and mussels. The open-air, country French-style restaurant is on the canal just after you cross the bridge from Sandy Ground, and if you didn't know better you might think you were in Venice.

My party of 6 was not pleased with the food last week at Mario's. We have been there before and thought it was just OK and decided to try it again. Four of us disliked our food. The duck was overcooked and dry. No one check with us about the food until the end of the meal. Then she said she wished that she knew earlier! Overpriced and overrated. We had 7 wonderful dinners in St. Maarten (Los Gaucho, Laguna, Mary's Boon, La Montmarte, Pizza Pasta, Beratzu, La Gondola) unfortunately Mario's was not one of them.
