Le Pressoir Review

In a carefully restored West Indian house painted in brilliant reds and blues, Le Pressoir has charm to spare. The name comes from the historic salt press that sits opposite the restaurant, but the thrill comes from the culinary creations of chef Franc Mear and the hospitality of his beautiful wife Melanie. If you are indecisive, or just plain smart, try any (or all) of the degustations (tastings) of four soups, four foie gras preparations, or four fruit desserts, each showcasing sophisticated preparations with adorable presentations. Foie gras is served in a dollhouse-size terrine, with a teensy glass of Sauternes.

    An excellent choice

    You should not visit St. Martin without enjoying at least one dinner at Le Pressoir (we chose to eat there twice on our last visit). Each course was outstanding and the wine list is superb. Though the menu is a bit pricey, the food, service and charm of the place make it worth every penny.

    Best food we ate on St. Martin

    Lovely restaurant at the north end of the Grand Case "restaurant row". Fine linens, friendly efficient service, and no guests dining in t-shirts & tennis shoes(as is unfortunately the norm on much of the island.) Extensive, albeit pricy, wine list focused (obviously) on France. Started with a rabbit confit, wife had fois gras four ways, including a foie gras "brulee" which was exquisite. Moved on to a very nice sea scallops with foie gras and truffle sauce with fresh-shaved black truffles, wife had a fish special with a beurre blanc sauce. Dessert quite innovative, including a dish decorated with tiny chocolate-covered pop rocks. All great, by far the best restaurant we dined at during our one-week stay (February 2009)

    The Best Restaurant on the Island...not even close

    We have traveled to the island for 12+ years...and Le Pressoir is absolutely the best restaurant in St Martin. Frank (chef owned) and Melanie are wonderful hosts and create a dining experience for the ages. The seafood is exquisite...and the wine collection is second to none! Don't flirt with other restaurants until AFTER you've eaten here.
