Le Tastevin Review

In the heart of Grand Case, Le Tastevin is on everyone's list of favorites. The attractive wood-beamed room is the "real" St. Martin style, and the tasty food is enhanced by Joseph, the amiable owner, who serves up lunch and dinner every day on a breezy porch over a glittering blue sea. Salads and simple grills rule for lunch; at dinner, try one of the two tasting menus, either a "brasserie" style menu or a more expensive "gourmet" menu that includes excellent wines.

    A Big Disappointment

My wife and I went to Le Tastevin for lunch one day last week, with high expectations and excellent appetite. We found a charming atmosphere and a friendly headwaiter. My wife ordered the "Acapulco salad," particularly because the dish was billed to include fresh avocado. When it arrived, she found no avocado whatsoever. When she inquired of the waiter, a rather surly young man (not the friendly headwaiter), he informed her that the avocado was "all gone." Period. No offer of substitution, no apology, no nothing. I guess we could have made a fuss, but we just decided to pay, leave, and never return. I guess the moral of the story is that if you want a particular ingredient in your meal at Le Tastevin, you'd better make sure the chef has it in stock.

The Best Restaurant on St. Marteen...

My wife and I spent six nights in St. Marteen/St. Martin in April, 2009. We did our research and dined at all of the best restaurants. A few were very disappointing. All were expensive. But without question, Le Tastevin was the best. The atmosphere and service were very good. But the food was wonderful. This restaurant should not be missed by any serious foodie. A definite return the next time we are on the island, which will be soon.

    Le Tastevin Review

My husband and I went yesterday to the restaurant for lunch, to try some new place on the island. It was huge disappointment. The waiter was rather indifferent, no interest in the guests needs. My salad - chicken with mango and pineapple - came with sour tomatoes and one out tree pieces of chicken was raw. The waiter took the plate away, and brought it back in about a minute saying the the chef cooked this piece, "do you want to finish your salad?". No apology or something. On top of that the bill included the salad with raw chicken, and it took 25min to argue with the owner to fix our bill. There is no understanding of the "Food Safe" concept or costumer service what so ever. I am staying away from that place!
