Hot Deals in High Season

The most expensive time to visit St. Maarten/St. Martin is the high season, which runs from December to April. But this shouldn't deter bargain hunters. Finding good deals takes perseverance, patience, and flexibility. When you're booking a room, call the hotel directly and ask about special offers. Even the most upscale resorts offer discount rates for certain rooms and certain days of the week even in high season. Also, there is often a big difference between accommodations even within the same property, especially if there is renovation going on. Be sure to ask if you have special requests or concerns about smoking, accessibility, and amenities. Packages with special themes like water sports or spas can also save you money. Check out deals where kids stay free, you get a free night when you book a certain number of nights, or packages include meals. Some of the hotels are getting more relaxed about minimum stays.

There's a lot of competition at the island's shops and boutiques. You can always try bargaining, especially in the jewelry stores. You can sometimes get as much as 25% off. Ask "is this your best price?" They will let you know if they're in the mood to deal. Casinos are always giving something away—chips, drinks, limo service. At restaurants, the prix-fixe lunch or dinner is usually the better deal. On slower nights like Monday and Tuesday, many restaurants offer specials. Look for special offers at the local tourism board and in the local newspaper, the Daily Herald.
