Roads in St. Lucia are winding and mountainous, except north of Castries, making driving a challenge for timid or apprehensive drivers and exhausting for everyone else. You drive on the left, British-style. Seat belts are required, and speed limits are enforced, especially in Castries.

Car Rentals

To rent a car you must be at least 25 years old and provide a valid driver's license and a credit card. If you don't have an international driver's license, you must buy a temporary St. Lucia driving permit ($20 [EC$54]) at the car-rental office, the immigration office at either airport, or the Gros Islet police station. Car-rental rates are usually quoted in U.S. dollars and range from $45 to $80 per day or $300 to $450 per week.
