Boucan by Hotel Chocolat Review

Anyone who loves chocolate will love this group of cottages just south of Soufrière and within shouting distance of the Pitons. Two successful British chocolatiers decided to come to the source and built this upscale eco-friendly hotel on an historic (1745) cocoa estate that continues as a working plantation. The hotel—named for the shed that houses the rolling trays used to dry cacao beans in the sunshine—consists of a half-dozen one-bedroom lodges and 8 one-bedroom "luxe" lodges. The luxe lodges are twice as large and on elevated ground, providing unobstructed Piton views. The decor throughout the property is, of course, predominently chocolate brown and white. Everything is high-end here...the lush decor in the suites, the granite counters in the bathrooms, the concierge cabinets with fresh coffee and tea, as well as bottles of champagne, wine, and beer...and estate-made chocolate treats. Boucan restaurant, on site, serves "cacao cuisine"—dishes infused or spiced with cocoa and chocolate platters for dessert. Even the spa uses cocoa products. Guests can hike or picnic on the cacao groves; the Tree to Bar experience, held on Thursdays and Fridays, allows guests to talk to the planters, select cacao pods, and make their own chocolate bars and truffles from beans they have roasted themselves.
