Fodor's Review

The cheerful restaurant-bar in the Hummingbird Beach Resort specializes in creole cuisine, starting with fresh seafood or chicken seasoned with local herbs and accompanied by vegetables just picked from the Hummingbird's garden. Sandwiches (on homemade bread) and salads are also available. If you stop for lunch, sit outside by the pool for a magnificent view of the Pitons (you're welcome to take a dip), and be sure to visit the batik studio and art gallery of proprietor

Joan Alexander, which is next to the dining room. Wednesday night is Creole night with live entertainment, dancing, and special dishes on the menu.

Beautiful view while dining!

The Hummingbird restaurant provides you a beautiful view of the Pitons while dining in their open air restaurant. (Be prepared for open air eating, since most restaurants on the island are open air seating!) Food was good, although the service was very good.

A nice alternative

We enjoyed our dinner at Hummingbird. I do have to say that we were spoiled, staying at Ladera and enjoying Dasheene's top-notch cuisine. But Hummingbird offered a nice switch. The service was decent. Our waiter was very friendly, but we went on a quiet night and he was distracted by friends nearby. We didn't mind that too much because he kept an eye on us. Our food was also pleasant. Our overall experience wasn't spectacular, but I think it

just suffered a bit in comparison to the ambiance at Dasheene. We did have fun, had a good meal, and left in a good island mood. So: a good night out, but nothing to completely knock your socks off.

If you are staying at Ladera, don't bother!!!!!

After dining several nights at Dashene, we wanted to try something different. No view, slow service, decent food, decent prices. Went back to Dashene's for desert!

A terrific option for dinner in Soufriere

The Hummingbird was highly recommended to us by locals on St. Lucia, and they were right. The food was delicious -- not quite up to Dasheene standards, but priced a bit more reasonably. Waitstaff was a little impatient with us when we weren't ready to order (hey, what's the rush, we're on vacation!).
