Island Activities

The island's beaches are decent, but you won't find many long stretches of fine white sand since St. Lucia is a volcanic island; Reduit Beach, in the north, is considered the island's best.

St. Lucia has excellent diving along its southwest coast. One upscale resort, Anse Chastanet, specializes in diving from its base near the Pitons.

Deep-sea fishing is also good. A day sail is one of the best ways to see a good bit of the island and a good way to travel from Castries to Soufrière, or vice versa.

However, St. Lucia's crown jewel is its well-preserved rain forest, which can best be explored on a guided hike.

Climbing one of the twin Pitons is a rewarding—if arduous—experience and can be done without any special mountain- or rock-climbing experience (though that never hurts). You must hire a guide, however.
