Legal tender is the Eastern Caribbean (EC) dollar. The rate of exchange at this writing is EC$2.68 to US$1. U.S. dollars are accepted practically everywhere, but you'll usually get change in EC currency. Most large hotels, restaurants, and shops accept major credit cards, but small inns and shops often do not. MasterCard and Visa are the most frequently accepted credit cards. The Royal Bank of St. Kitts has an ATM. There are ATMs on Nevis at the airport, at the Bank of Nova Scotia, at First Caribbean International Bank, and at the St. Kitts-Nevis National Bank. They all accept Cirrus and PLUS cards but dispense only EC dollars.
