This stylish restaurant occupies an old Creole home whose charming enclosed patio offers lovely views of Basseterre and the bay. The interior lounge is even more conducive to romantic dining, with cushy sofas, patterned hardwood floors, porcelain lamps, and African carvings. The menu reflects co-owner–chef Alexander James's peripatetic postings: you might start with wonderfully crispy fried Brie with sweet-and-sour blackberry sauce or beautifully presented spring rolls with plum-soy dipping sauce. Mahimahi crusted with cheddar, Parmesan, basil, and garlic floating on pools of creole and saffron cream sauces; or prosciutto-wrapped beef tenderloin topped with pâté, prosciutto, and Madeira sauce paired with tiger shrimp in garlic sauce typify the ambitious main courses. The wine list is well considered; vegetarians will be delighted by the many creative options; and very affordable lunches feature gargantuan tapas-style selections.
