Wild North Frigate Bay and desolate Conaree Beach are great for riding, as is the rain forest. Guides from Trinity Stables (869/465-3226) offer beach rides ($40) and trips into the rain forest ($50). The latter is intriguing as guides discuss plants' medicinal properties along the way (such as sugarcane to stanch bleeding) and pick oranges right off a tree to squeeze fresh juice. Otherwise, the staffers are cordial but shy, and this isn't a place for beginners' instruction.

Nevis

Nevis Equestrian Centre (Cotton Ground, Pinney's Beach. 869/469-8118) arranges leisurely beach rides, more demanding trail rides ($55-$80), and lessons from caring, careful owners Erika and John.
