This sophisticated hotel right in Gustavia received a welcome overhaul in 2006, and its new incarnation is the last word in luxury. Each apartment-suite is lavishly decorated and equipped with every modern convenience: iPod-clock radios, multiple flat-screen TVs, and complete minikitchens (except the smallest "spa suite") with a Häagen Dazs-stocked refrigerator-freezer, and an espresso machine. The hotel is a good option if you don't want to do much driving—it's within walking distance of everything in town if you don't mind climbing the hill. One- and two-bedroom suites with private decks and black-and-gold tile plunge pools spill down a hill overlooking quaint Gustavia Harbor. Summer rates and special Internet and honeymoon packages are offered. The Carl Gustaf restaurant, with a chic, Euro-modern decor, known for its classic French cuisine, is spectacular for sunset cocktails and dinner over the twinkle of the harbor lights. Pros: luxurious decor; in-town location; loads of in-room gadgets. Cons: not very "beachy"; outdoor space limited to your private plunge pool.
