Carl Gustaf Review

This sophisticated hotel right in Gustavia received a welcome overhaul in 2006, and its new incarnation is the last word in luxury. The hotel is a good option if you don't want to do much driving—it's within walking distance of everything in town if you don't mind climbing the hill, but there is ample parking if you want a car. Each apartment-suite is lavishly decorated and equipped with every modern convenience: iPod clock-radios, multiple flat-screen TVs, and complete mini-kitchens (except the smallest "spa suite"), with a Häagen Dazs-stocked refrigerator-freezer and an espresso machine. One- and two-bedroom suites with private decks and black-and-gold-tiled plunge pools spill down a hill overlooking quaint Gustavia Harbor. If you need even more space, there are multibedroom villas and suites with up to seven superluxurious bedrooms, private pools, and Jacuzzis. There is even one completely wheelchair-accessible suite, a rarity on the island. Summer rates and special Internet and honeymoon packages are offered. The Victoria restaurant, with glamorous, Euro-modern decor, and thrilling views, is known for its classic French cuisine and is a spectacular venue for sunset cocktails and dinner over the twinkle of the harbor lights. The Carita spa and 24-hour fitness facility offers a resistance pool, steam rooms, saunas, and pampering galore.
