When to Go

High season runs roughly from December 15 through April 15. Puerto Ricans flock here at Christmas and Easter, when Vieques and Culebra are packed with families enjoying the sun and sand. Be sure to make reservations well in advance if you're visiting during the holidays. The shoulder season, when prices are a bit lower, is a good option, but keep in mind that both islands are popular weekend getaways for mainland Puerto Ricans, so reservations are always recommended. And take note: some restaurants and hotels are closed during low season. The only time you might want to avoid is late August through late October, when hurricanes can strike the area.
