Banks and Money in Puerto Rico

Banks and Money

More Travel Tips »

Puerto Rico, as a commonwealth of the United States, uses the U.S. dollar as its official currency. Credit cards, including Diners Club and Discover, are widely accepted, especially in tourist areas. Automated Teller Machines are readily available and reliable in the cities; many are attached to banks, but you can also find them on the streets and in supermarkets. ATMs are found less frequently in rural areas. Look to local banks such as Banco Popular and First Bank. Citibank also has branches in San Juan, including a convenient Condado branch across from the Radisson Hotel.
