Depending on what mode of transportation you choose, you can see the Greater San Juan area sights in a day; if you linger in the museums, exploring might require two days. Buses are the least expensive but most time-consuming way to travel. Unfortunately, the beautiful new rapid-transit system, Tren Urbano, does not yet service the main tourist areas; however, if you're traveling to Bayamón, Guaynabo, Río Piedras, or another, more residential suburb, it's an option. Taxis are more convenient and you won't get lost—consider hiring a taxi by the hour and covering your selected sights in a couple of hours. Taxis charge around $36 per hour for city tours, but the rate can be negotiable for long stretches of time.
