Fodor's Expert Review La Mallorquina
Editor's Note: This location is reported to be under new ownership and therefore this review may contain inaccuracies.
Dating from 1848, La Mallorquina is thought to be the island's oldest restaurant. It specializes in various versions of asopao, a soupy rice dish with chicken or seafood, as well as other Puerto Rican and Spanish-inspired favorites. But it's the old-fashioned atmosphere that really recommends the place. In a room of whirring ceiling fans and antique marble floor tiles, the nattily attired staffers zip between white-clothed tables. Keep in mind that service can be a bit slow here, and prices are a bit steep for what you get.
