Not many hotels can lay claim to their own fort, but Fortín San Gerónimo del Boquerón, which once guarded the entrance to San Juan Bay, is on the grounds of this sprawling resort, one of the largest in Puerto Rico. It has a private beach, a multilevel pool with swim-up bar, a luxurious spa, and one of the best-developed kids' programs on the island. The airy Oasis lobby bar makes one of the more legitimate claims to inventing the piña colada; it holds an official government

This is my favorite hotel/resort in San Juan. A lovely experience starts when you walk "into" the lobby (which is actually outside). On hot days, they offer ice cold water with slices of lemon and orange in the lobby. It was a lovely welcome to us as the day we went, it was over 90 degrees and humid. Our room was gorgeous with a balcony overlooking the pool which was amazing! Meandering and cool, it was where we spent most of our time here. There
are some nice little shops in the lobby, the beach is private and you can use/rent beach equipment. The breakfast buffet is a little expensive ($25. per person) but well worth it! The best breakfast buffet ever! I am surprised at the negative reviews on this site as we have stayed here twice and it is the only hotel we will book in the future (in San Juan).

We arrived on a Friday morning and checked in about 12:00pm. Checked out on Monday and had one of the most relaxing weekends ever! Best deal is to get the Executive rooms plus breakfast buffet at Palmeras. The room was perfect and what a view of the beach and fort (on the Normandie Hotel side)! We loved Mortons Steakhouse and Madrid restaurants which are located right on the premises. The Atlantico bar & Grill, located right IN the pool is great for
cooling down and having a quick and enjoyable lunch. The french fries were delicious. We actually fell asleep on the hammocks on the beach till 1:30am. The lack of a casino makes the hotel peacefull but if you desire a "louder" nightlife a $10.00 cab ride brings you to the town. We're coming back next year for sure!

The grounds of this resort hotel are beautiful and the location is great, but the hotel itself has seen better days. We were assigned to the Garden Wing, which is unrenovated, depressing and broken. The bathrooms didn't work, lighting fixtures were taped (scary) and there was only one maid per floor, so rooms were not cleaned until very late in the day. These rooms were ugly and uncomfortable. Beware.
