Zoológico de Puerto Rico Review

Puerto Rico's only zoo, the 45-acre Zoológico de Puerto Rico, is just north of downtown. Its 45-foot-tall aviary allows you to walk through a rain-forest environment as tropical birds fly freely above your head. There's also a butterfly park where you can let brilliant blue morphos land on your hand, and an arthropodarium where you can get up close and personal with spiders and their kin. Video monitors are built into the floor to show off the bugs that normally get trampled underfoot. The older section of the park has undergone an extensive renovation, so most of the cages have been replaced by fairly natural-looking environments. One of the most popular residents is Mundi, a female elephant who arrived as a baby more than two decades ago. There are also plenty of lions, tigers—and even bears.
