This hotel's triangular shape subtly echoes the cruise ships docked nearby. Rooms facing the water have dazzling views of these behemoths as they sail in and out of the harbor. Others have views over the rooftops of Old San Juan. The rooms have been plushly renovated and have nice touches like custom-designed beds. On the top floor you can find a sunny patio with a pool and whirlpool bath, as well as a spacious gym with the latest equipment; the concierge level provides hassle-free check-ins, continental breakfasts, and evening hors d'oeuvres. Pros: great views of cruise ships; shimmering rooftop pool; only casino in neighborhood. Cons: chain-hotel feel; not all rooms have views.

If your goal is to spend days exploring Old San Juan's many treasures, you can't do better than the Sheraton - particularly for the price. The rooms are basic rooms, but who's spending time in the rooms? The bar is comfortable, the casino open about 21 hours a day is a fun diversion after dark. You're also ideally located in front of the taxi stand, one block from the easy-to-use bus station and one block from the ferry that takes you across the bay to the Bacardi factory.
Convenient and affordable with a touch of class.
