Part of the allure of this oceanfront hotel is that it's a bit off the beaten path. The South Seas-style decor begins in the high-ceilinged lobby, where hand-carved chaises invite you to enjoy the view through the almond trees. The rooms continue the theme with rich fabrics and dark-wood furnishings. A variety of activities are available, including whale- and turtle-watching in season. At the end of the infinity pool a boardwalk leads down to the sand. Unlike many of the beaches just a few miles north, the waters here are calm—not great for surfing, but perfect for a dip. The resort is tucked away in Añasco, about halfway between Rincón to the north and Mayagüez to the south. Pros: beautiful setting; gorgeous pool area; laid-back vibe. Cons: far from dining options; lacks a Puerto Rican flavor.
