Car Travel

Getting around southern Puerto Rico without a car can be quite frustrating. You can rent cars at the Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport and other San Juan locations. There are also car-rental agencies in some of the larger cities along the south coast. Rates run about $35-$55 a day. A road map is essential in southern Puerto Rico. So is patience: Allow extra time for twisting mountain roads and wrong turns. Some roads, especially in rural areas, aren't plainly marked.

Taxi

In Ponce you can hail taxis in tourist areas and outside hotels. In smaller towns it's best to call a taxi. You can also hire a car service (make arrangements through your hotel); often you can negotiate a lower rate than a taxi.
