If you want easy access to shopping, dining, and nightlife, then you should stay in San Juan, which also has decent—though by no means the island's best—beaches. Most of the other large, deluxe resorts are along the northeast coast. There are also a few resorts along the southern coast. Rincón, in the west, has a concentration of resorts and great surfing. Other small inns and hotels are around the island in the interior, including a few around El Yunque. Look to Vieques and Culebra if you want to find excellent beaches and little development. Many larger resorts in Puerto Rico charge resort fees, which are uncommon elsewhere in the Caribbean. More »
