Customs & Duties

Puerto Rico is considered to be a part of the U.S. for customs purposes, so you will not pass through customs on arrival if you are coming from the United States. When leaving Puerto Rico for the mainland, you must pass your bag through a checkpoint of the U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS). The list of organic products that can be transported from Puerto Rico to the States includes avocados, bananas, breadfruits, citrus fruits, ginger, papayas, and plantains.
