Fodor's Review:

In the 7,000-acre Bosque Estatal Carite, 40 km (25 mi) of trails run through stands of palms, Honduras mahogany, and Spanish cedars -- many of which host orchids. One trail leads to Charco Azul (Blue Pond), whose cool waters appeal to overheated hikers. Before setting out, get hiking information at the park manager's office near the entrance on Route 184. If you'd like a space in one of the two campgrounds, be sure to get a permit in advance from the Puerto Rico Department of Natural Resources in San Juan. Picnic tables are scattered throughout the forest, and bathroom facilities are available near the campgrounds.
