Forests, Maricao
Fodor's Review:
Drier than other forest reserves found near the central mountains, Bosque Estatal de Maricao (Maricao State Forest) is known as one of the island's most important bird-watching destinations. The 60 species found here -- 29 of which are endangered -- include the Puerto Rican vireo and the elfin woods warbler. You'll find an information center and a stone observation tower about 1/2 mi beyond the forest entrance. The Centro Vacacional Monte de Estado has rustic cabins for rent.
