On the Ground

Though you can take taxis, you'll best appreciate Montserrat's quiet beauty if you rent a car and do some exploring on your own. Rates start at around $35 a day, but gas is expensive. Prepare to drive on your left, break for rambling goats and chickens, and negotiate some steep, winding roads. The fixed taxi fare from the airport ranges from $6 (for Tropical Mansion) to $22 (to the Olveston/Salem area villas).
