Safety in Martinique

Martinique is a reasonably safe island, and generally you will not feel threatened. In Fort-de-France, however, exercise the same safety precautions you would in any large city. It's best not to be downtown at night unless you're with a group, preferably of Martinicans. Never leave jewelry, money, or designer sunglasses unattended on the beach or in your car. Keep your laptop under wraps, even in your hotel room, and put valuables in hotel safes.
