Fodor's Expert Review Musée d'Histoire et d'Ethnographie

Caribbean History Museum

This museum is best undertaken at the beginning of your vacation, so you can better understand the history, background, and people of the island. Housed in an elaborate former military residence (circa 1888) with balconies and fretwork, the museum displays gold jewelry as well as the sorts of rooms that a middle-class Martinican would have lived in. Oil paintings, engravings, and old historical documents also help sketch out the island's culture.
