This high-rise, perched on a hillside overlooking Fort-de-France, is the closest to the airport (5 mi [8 km]) and is ideal for first- or last-night stays. The style is French moderne, and the lobby looks super, with espresso-color furnishings. The place has an efficient and caring staff and is constantly upgrading. The "business corner" as well as the meeting room in the lobby stay busy. The Valmenière stays well occupied with business travelers and in-the-know sojourners. Leisure time can be spent mocking the traffic below from the infinity pool or bubbling in the hot tub on the solarium level. There's a fun bar-brasserie, which no longer serves meals. Inquire about the weekend packages. Pros: always alive and active; fine dining restaurant; new suites with balconies. Cons: primarily a business hotel; rooms are large but simplistic; lacks panache.
