Calebasse Café Review
A diverse, mostly older, crowd gravitates to Calebasse Café. Jazz is the norm, but there may be soul or R&B, and there's often a talented local singer. Concerts may be combined with art exhibitions, like the recent "percussion and painting." Funky and hip, the interior is a bit rough but convivial, albeit artsy. If you don't make a reservation on Saturday night, you won't have a seat. The food here isn't wonderful, but if you have the conch tart and the grilled lobster, you'll leave satisfied and avoid the cover charge. Friday and Saturday nights are banging, but call before you go on other nights. Doors open at 6 pm, but the music doesn't start till later in the evening. If an event is destined to be a big draw, a white tent is erected outside.
