Fishing in Martinique

Deep-sea fishing expeditions in these waters hunt down tuna, barracuda, dolphinfish, kingfish, and bonito, and the big ones—white and blue marlins. You can hire boats from the bigger marinas, particularly in Pointe du Bout, Le Marin, and Le François; most hotels arrange these Hemingwayesque trysts, but will often charge a premium. If you call several days in advance, companies can also put you together with other anglers to keep costs down. The Centre de Peche (Port de Plaisance, bd. Allègre, Le Marin, 97290. 0596/76-24-20 or 0696/28-80-58), a fully loaded Davis 47-foot fishing boat, is a sportfisherman's dream. It goes out with a minimum of five anglers for EUR 195 per person for a half day, or EUR 390 per person for a full day, including lunch. Nonanglers can come for the ride for EUR 95 and EUR 190, respectively. Captain Yves speaks English fluently and is a fun guy.
