Jamaica Sights

Good Hope Estate Review

A visit to Good Hope Great House, about a 20-minute drive inland from Falmouth, will give you a real sense of Jamaica's rich history as a sugar-estate island. The house, built in 1755, is now a museum where a guide leads you through opulently furnished rooms. John Tharp, who acquired the house in the mid-18th century, was one of the few planters to educate his slaves, and he also built a hospital for them. After your tour, you can have tea on the terrace.
