Jamaica Sights

National Gallery Review

The artists represented at the National Gallery may not be household names, but their paintings are sensitive and moving. You can find works by such Jamaican masters as painter John Dunkley and sculptor Edna Manley. Among other highlights from the 1920s through 1980s are works by the artist Kapo, a self-taught painter who specialized in religious images. The gallery's exhibition program introduces visitors to the work of contemporary Jamaican artists through events such as The National Biennial and the National Visual Arts Competition and Exhibition, which are staged annually each July and August, respectively. Guided tours are offered for J$3000 for groups of up to 25 people and must be booked in advance of your visit.
