Fodor's Review

If you can forgo a private beach at your doorstep (there's a public one across the street, and an hourly shuttle that takes you to other Sandals properties), you can stay here for much less than at the other Sandals resorts. Managed more as a small hotel than a large resort, this property is intimate and relatively quiet. The charming rooms are compact; most have balconies that face the small pool area. Although the hotel has fewer on-site facilities than its sister properties, it does have the added benefit of 24-hour room service. The in-town location puts you close to shops and sights, a bonus if you like to get out and explore. Like others in the chain, this property is for couples only.

The good.. the bad.. and the horrible

Let’s start with the good.. Mr Nibbles, AWESOME!! Great food, cooks from the heart, gives it a lot of LOVE!! Floyd and Dane, what can I say, I love you guys!! They make a great drink and take great pride in their work!! In the morning Dane would have my mimosa ready when I sat down! Love it! The Carlyle is a small property with a lot of character. Yes it has locals across the street and a lot of street noise, but nothing my white noise app didn’t

fix. We took the shuttle over to Montego Bay and Royal Caribbean, we liked Montego Bay the best, between the 3 resorts there is a lot to do. The food was good, the drinks were great! Bayside restaurant at Montego Bay had our favorite Steak and Great Chicken cordon bleu. The Pizza at the Mariners Grill by the beach was great! The BAD REALLY REALLY BAD... On our second day, we were involved in a HORRIFIC SHUTTLE BUS ACCIDENT. Hit by a local attorney vivlaah golaub he ran a red light and hit us directly, then we were advised left the scene of the accident! Sandals said they would take care of us not to worry.. They brought us to the hospital and paid the emergency room visit.. But the hospital was horrible. My husband and I had pains in places and they didn't even check those areas. 5 hours in a Jamaican hospital with nothing accomplished. We asked to be moved to a first floor room, but this hotel didn't have first floor rooms.. So, we were kindly moved over to Montego bay Sandals, because I didn’t want to get on another shuttle bus for the rest of my trip until I went to the airport. Also we could barely walk let alone go up 3 flights of stairs. The traffic is horrendous. People drive like idiots. They were telling guests the bus had mechanical problems. And after our accident guests were advised to fasten their seatbelts, until the accident I didn’t even know the shuttle bus even had seatbelts. So now we are injured, sore and in a foreign country. Romance and fun isn’t happening at this point.. This totally ruined our vacation. We had to continually ask for police to give a statement and we still don’t have a copy of an accident report. A federal police officer showed up 4 days later to take our statement. We couldn’t go on excursions, because we were injured, bruised and sore, we couldn’t even walk to the other end of the beach because of the pain. We asked to see the Doctor, that took 3 days.. Then they told us that we would have to pay for it. I advised, no I will not being paying for that. I was in your shuttle in your care when this happened. So we didn’t pay to see the Doctor, but she recommended we get more exercise, we still don’t have copies of those x-rays. We met the General Manager and was very nice and said not to worry they would take care of us. So the day we left, I asked the manager what they were going to do to take care of us and they said nothing at this time. I could send my receipts from medical bills to customerservice@grp.sandals.com. And they would consider reimbursing us; CONSIDER…. This was the word used by the Manager. After we got home we went to our own Doctor and had Xrays, CT scans and exams. We are very lucky to have no major injuries, back and neck whiplash and my husband needs some injections for pain and numbness in his arm. After 3 weeks of not hearing from Sandal; they have all our information, because we had to file an accident report. We decided to then email the CEO of Sandals. The next day we received a voicemail from the real manager of the hotel. After 2 days the General Manager then called and spoke to my husband. He said he wanted to settle this amicably, have us come back to the resort to enjoy the vacation. So we advised him to send us the proposal. After 2 weeks we finally received a JOKE of an offer. We were at sandals Dec 13-20 LOW SEASON(40% occupancy) and purchased the 7 day stay on their Veterans day sale. Sandals is not cheap by any means, and it was a year worth of savings. The offer they sent was only to reimburse in the form of a credit to use at any of their locations.. only what we paid(sale and off season).. NOT a full week stay just the credit of what we paid. And not even give us our money back, just a credit to use at any of their resorts. So I went online to look and well, in order for us to return and stay in the lowest level room coming up any time in the next 6 months we would still have to dish out thousands of dollars AND Pay for airfare again. The offer also included that we not post anything on social media. I counter offered with a 7 day stay and throw in a couple excursions. I was advised this was a firm goodwill offer, and maybe I should change my length of stay to accommodate the amount we paid. And if I wasn’t satisfied I should go through the local court system and go after the driver who is at fault. We are very disappointed in sandalsresorts they are supposed to be a brand a step above. They just won 9 awards for travel. ALSO we now find out they are offering a free trip contest to promote their new BUS SAFETY VIDEO. But we who were in the accident aren’t even offered a week vacation to come back so we can enjoy our vacation that we paid for. The other couple involved in the accident have yet to be contacted! Instead of making this situation right, they are trying to sweep us under the rug. Trip advisor would not post this review… hmmm
